Almost three million homes will be visited, 12% of the total of the nearly 26 million that are in Spain. The new housing 2011 census can give actual numbers for the stock. The georrrenciacion will allow the unambiguous identification of the building. How many houses there are in Spain and who inhabit them? That question will answer the National Institute of statistics (INE), which is finalizing the details of the census on population and housing 2011. It’s the great statistics, elaborated every ten years, which serves as basis to any study on the evolution of the number of existing homes and the population residing in them. The previous census was in 2001, ten years ago.

The work to develop the new census will begin in September. For this purpose the INE has recruited 5,000 people who will visit nearly 3 million homes, a 12% of the nearly 26 million homes that exist in Spain. The census which begins on September is particularly relevant to know the existing homes after the housing boom. The Census of Buildings will be a statistical operation that will coincide in time with the postal population survey phase. This operation shall be designed to collect comprehensive information of all the buildings of the national territory where there is located any housing, with enumeration of all real estate located in them.
